County Leitrim: Watz da craic?

Wild Rose County. Leitrim's nickname has its root in a 19th Century historical romance novel called 'The Wild Rose of Lough Gill'. Wild roses also bloom throughout northwest Leitrim. Leitrim is Ireland's least populated county and not too much traffic, and only had its first traffic lights installed in 2003 in Carrick-on-Shannon. The name 'Leitrim' itself is derived from the Irish 'Liath Druim', meaning 'grey ridge'. Philip Fitzpatrick, born in Leitrim, emigrated to NY in 1920s, and wrote the song, "Lovely Leitrim," in a loving tribute to his beloved home county. The song is still loved both in Ireland and the US.
