'Slasher' originates from Myles 'the Slasher' O'Reilly, a very brave soul, killed defending his local territory in 1644. The Longford Slashers are a GAA club in Longford Town. Longford hosts the 'Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival', an annual celebration of Irish trad and American bluegrass music.
